Invasive Species

Invasive Species Information Center

"Invasive Species Information Center
Landscapers from every island in Hawaii are concerned about the threat
posed to our environment by invasive species. Because invasive plants can
sometimes be sold by our industry and planted by the public in their
gardens, the landscape industry feels a responsibility to take a proactive
role in the education of the public. It is also hoped that through self
regulation of our industry we can assure that our practices minimize the
dangers of invasive species.

The LICH Invasive Plant list and guidelines are living documents to be
revised to reflect the latest information on an annual basis. Plants can be
added, usage determinations revised, benefit/risk information added or
plants removed from the list. Changes are based on industry consensus so
your input makes a difference.

This is a volunteer effort so we rely on the your extensive expertise and
experience. Based on your comments a recommended list with your comments
will be developed and then provided to the representative island
associations. The list is island based so each island determines their
invasive plant list. Representing their islands will be Kauai Landscape
Industry Council, Maui Association of Landscape Professionals, and Hawaii
Island Landscape Association. Since Oahu is very diverse, a committee will
review it with representatives from a variety of Oahu organizations.
