One 13-class session in Landscape Maintenance training will be offered at the Urban Garden Center (UGC) in Pearl City beginning July 2. Nation's Urban Forests Losing Ground


WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2012 —
National results indicate that tree cover in urban areas of the United States is declining at a rate of about 4 million trees per year, according to a U.S. Forest Service study published recently in Urban Forestry & Urban Greening.

Tree Care SafetyBasic Tree Care Safety Workshop

DLIR and HIOSH are very concerned about the number of fatalities occurring in the Tree Care Industry.  There were two fatalities in 2010, and three in 2011.  HIOSH is partnering with the Aloha Arborist Association to present a low cost Basic Tree Care Safety Workshop to educate all in the landscape indusrty on tree care safety.

Rainfall Atlas of Hawai`i


 
The highly anticipated Rainfall Atlas of Hawai`i, compiled by UH's Tom Giambelluca and colleagues, is finally available online at: http://rainfall.geography.hawaii.edu/

The atlas, which has interactive maps, rainfall history, and much more, is based on three decades of data, from 1978 to 2007. The previous Rainfall Atlas was published more than 20 years ago, in 1986.
